According to a video that has gone viral on Facebook an officer released the K9 after the suspect punched him. The original poster stated that the suspect had come onto his property and was threatening his family.
You cant hear much in the video except for the conversation inside the vehicle of the people filming. Hence the NSFW warning. Though it appears by the officers body language he did make an attempt to diffuse the situation. You can see him back away from the agitated suspect several times and it would appear that the officer did try to de-escalate the situation before opening his patrol vehicle to release the K9.
