An activist group is demanding that Colorado Representative Lauren Boebert have her guns taken away pending an investigation they requested over allegations of illegal drug use.
The American Muckrakers PAC, a watchdog organization focused on “holding elected officials accountable,” submitted a letter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and other Colorado officials urging them to investigate Boebert.
The claims, which have not been verified by Newsweek, include allegations from sources that Boebert has used methamphetamine and marijuana. The letter also includes press reports that Boebert was allegedly cut off from alcohol service at a GOP event in December.
Newsweek reached out to Boebert’s office via email for comment.
“Based upon this information, I am respectfully requesting an immediate investigation into these serious allegations, including Boebert’s illegal ownership of a firearm while allegedly using illegal drugs, her excessive use of alcohol, her criminal recidivism, and her clear lack of respect for the law,” American Muckrakers co-founder David Wheeler wrote.
“I believe Boebert is a ticking time bomb and she needs to be relieved of her firearms pending an investigation into the actions above. No one is above the law, including a Member of Congress. She must be held accountable for her actions.”
