A robber was shot while trying to steal beer from a gas station convenience store, according to police in Tennessee.

The Memphis Police Department said that they are investigating the shooting, during which the suspect and a witness were shot.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Friday afternoon, at the gas station located at the South Highland Street and Southern Avenue intersection.

The suspect entered the gas station and took two can of beer.

When the suspect tried to leave without paying for the beer, the convenience store employee confronted him. An argument broke out, during which the suspect indicated that he had a gun.

When the robber assaulted the clerk, the employee pulled out a gun and fired at the suspect. As a result, the suspect and a witness were shot.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, were able to arrest the robber nearby. The witness was not seriously injured
