NYC suspect accused of robbing banks to repay money he stole from mom

An admitted drug addict is charged with desperately trying to rob three Flatiron District banks so he could repay money he stole from his mother, according to a new complaint filed in Manhattan federal court.

(FOX)- Daniel Steven Bertini, 39, was caught on surveillance video using a crowbar to unsuccessfully break into the tellers’ areas at KeyBank on East 22nd Street around 4:30 a.m. Monday and a Park Avenue South Bank of America about 25 minutes later, the court papers say.

But after coming up empty-handed at both locations, he then fled several block to a Chase bank on Sixth Avenue near West 18th Street and managed to swipe about $915 in coins, documents state.

Cops caught up with Bertini at the Chase, where he resisted arrest, the papers said. Bertini suffered two cuts to his own head, requiring stitches.
