3 in Custody After Man Fatally Shot in Front of Officers in South L.A.

Three people were in custody after a man was fatally shot in front of officers in the Vermont Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles early Wednesday morning, police said.

(KTLA)- Authorities received a report of a man with a gun near the intersection of West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Normandie Avenue at about 2:10 a.m., said Capt. Darnell Davenport with the Los Angeles Police Department.

“They responded to that intersection. Saw the man with a gun and actually saw the suspects firing rounds at the victim. At which time the victim went down,” Davenport said.

The shooting victim, described only as a man, died at the scene.

Three people involved in the shooting then led police on a pursuit through the neighborhood, Davenport said.

The chase ended after the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole in the 1100 block of West 47th Street, said Detective Meghan Aguilar with the Police Department.

Two of the people were taken into custody almost immediately, Davenport said, but the third person fled from officers.
