ATLANTA — Donell Cook, age 27, of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested by FBI agents and Task Force Officers of the FBI led Atlanta Metro Major Offender’s (AMMO) Task Force, along with tremendous assistance from the Dekalb County Police Department today, November 29, at a residence in Lithonia, Georgia.

On September 29, 2017, Cook failed to appear for sentencing at Middlesex County Superior Court, New Brunswick, New Jersey. Cook pleaded guilty to 2nd degree aggravated assault of a police officer stemming from a vehicle pursuit wherein the officer was dragged approximately fifty feet.

After the initial fugitive investigation indicated that Cook had fled to the metro Atlanta area, a federal Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution (UFAP) warrant was obtained.

Cook is currently being detained at the Dekalb County Detention Facility, Dekalb County, Georgia, where he awaits extradition back to New Jersey.

He was charged with aggravated assault after striking a city police officer with his car and dragging him 50 feet, according to police Director Anthony A. Caputo.

“During an encounter with the suspect, who was in his vehicle, the officer was dragged approximately 50 feet until the suspect’s vehicle hit a parked vehicle,” Caputo said in a statement.

After dragging Hendricks with the car, Cook got out and tried to disarm the officer, Caputo said.

Hendricks fought off Cook, who was later arrested by New Brunswick and Rutgers police, according to Caputo.

Hendricks suffered broken bones, abrasions and internal injuries. He was treated and later released from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, Caputo said.

In addition to the other charges, Cook is charged with assault by auto, obstruction of justice, hindering apprehension, resisting arrest by flight, driving under the influence, refusing to submit to a Breathalyzer test and reckless…
