Patient, employee shot and killed at Florida hospital

DEVELOPING: An elderly patient and an employee were shot and killed at a Florida hospital Sunday morning in what police are calling “an isolated incident.”

(FOX)- The two women — a 90-year-old patient and a nurse in her 40s — were killed at around 2 a.m. on the third floor of Parrish Medical Center in Titusville and a suspect is in custody, Cpl. Dave Jacobs with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office told Florida Today.

“It appears to be extremely random,” said Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

Police are crediting two unarmed security guards at the hospital with responding quickly to the active shooter situation.

“Our response was within minutes, and two security guards already had the sole shooter in custody,” Titusville Police Chief John Lau said, according to CBS News. “I cannot stress enough the response of the Parrish Medical staff. [They], without a doubt, saved more lives.”
