Illinois authorities were searching Monday for a suspect who shot a police officer during a pursuit Sunday evening.

During the chase, police say the suspect fired several shots from the fleeing vehicle at the officers’ cruiser, hitting the car and one of the officers inside. The cops ended their pursuit and drove the wounded officer to the hospital.

The officers did not return fire, KSDK reported, citing a police press release.

The officer, who was not identified, is in serious condition.
