A CNN anchor made an embarrassing on air blunder on Thursday when she mistook the Star Spangled Banner for the French national anthem.
Poppy Harlow was covering President Trump‘s arrival in Paris to meet President Emmanuel Macron this morning.
The nation’s leaders shook hands and then the men stood as a band played the United States’ national anthem.
Meanwhile, Harlow who was discussing what pressing issues the presidents would be tackling during the trip, such as the ceasefire in Syria and trade partnerships, then paused her commentary to say: ‘Let’s just listen in to the French National Anthem for just a moment.’
As the unmistakable notes of the Star Spangled Banner played out, now at volume, a rather embarrassed-sounding CNN anchor corrected her mistake.
‘The US American national anthem, I should say,’ she said, with an awkward laugh. ‘Let’s listen.’
