Meet Christian, the California man who is operating as a volunteer with the Syrian Defense Force in the operation to retake Raqqa from ISIS.
An ABC news special called Retaking Raqqa has journalists embedded with the Syrian Defense Force. In this short video they just released, they follow an American man who operates under the nomme de guerre Christian. He is a California native who has been working with the Kurds and Syrian Defense Force for a while, and has been acting as a sniper to support ground operations against the Islamic State.
His motivation for fighting, which can be seen in the video, are a few rounds that he keeps attached to the bag he carries with him everywhere he goes. On each round is the name of a location that was attacked by the Islamic State in the Western World. “What chance did they have, ya know? None. Justice. For them.” Christian says as the video rolls to a YPG film that shows Christian and other volunteers in action against the Islamic State.
