A memorial Honoring Navy Seal LT. Michael P. Murphy was vandalized. LT. Michael P. Murphy was killed on June 28th during Operation Redwings when his team was compromised near Asadabad Afghanistan. The mission was to capture a top Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, the commander of an insurgent group known as the “Mountain Tigers”. The mission was compromised when a group of goat herders stumbled upon the team. Upon release, the local Taliban forces were alerted to the seal teams presence. Shortly afterward the Taliban surrounded and attacked them.
Murphy was killed when he left his cover and proceeded to a clearing to get clear signal to radio for support for his team. He dropped the phone several times while being shot but finished the call. He continued fighting from his exposed position until he succumbed to his wounds.
An MH-47 Chinook helicopter loaded with reinforcements was dispatched to rescue the team after Murphy called for help, It was shot down with an RPG, killing all personnel onboard; eight service members from the 160th SOAR and eight SEALs.
ABC7 Reports that the vandal has been apprehended.

A 14-year-old was arrested the day after a memorial honoring a hero Navy SEAL from Long Island was destroyed.The monument honoring Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Michael P. Murphy of Brookhaven was vandalized Thursday, police said.Authorities said the suspect was arrested at his Ronkonkoma home early Friday morning on charges of criminal mischief.
He is scheduled to be arraigned at Family Court on a later date.
