People in Turkey, were shocked to learn that police refused to arrest a man for assault despite slapping a woman on the face.

Istanbul police have questioned Ercan Kizilates, after being accused of slapping the face of 21-year-old Asena Melisa Saglam.

After Kizilates told police that he was provoked by the short pants of the woman, he was let go without being charged.

Saglam is extremely frustrated by the police’s decision, and she has filed a direct appeal with the prosecutor’s office to file assault charge against her attacker.

Saglam said that on Wednesday, she was traveling on a city bus in Istanbul, when Kizilates came on board. He sat down in the seat in behind her, and began harassing the woman for wearing shorts.

Kizilates complained that she was provoking him by wearing very short pants during the holy month of Ramadan. Kizilates kept harassing the woman for the entire ride.

When Kizilates prepared to get off the bus, he slapped the woman across the face. Saglam initially fought back and pushed the man away, but Kizilates hit her again before running out of the bus.
