What is a MOAB?

GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast

Or as I like to call it, the MOTHER OF ALL BOMBS!

When I started out in the Military, I was an Ammunition Specialist 55B, in the US Army Reserves. (Let the BB counter jokes ensue)

I got to handle a variety of munitions, but NEVER did I see anything this MASSIVE! The MOAB is by far one of the most devastating Non-Nuclear weapons in the U.S. Arsenal.

According to Wikipedia:

The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB pronounced /ˈm.æb/, commonly known as the Mother of All Bombs) is a large-yield conventional (non-nuclear) bomb, developed for the United States military by Albert L. Weimorts, Jr. of the Air Force Research Laboratory.

At the time of development, it was touted as the most powerful non-nuclear weapon ever designed. The bomb was designed to be delivered by a C-130 Hercules, primarily the MC-130E Combat Talon I or MC-130H Combat Talon II variants.

The MOAB has been used once in combat, in a 13 April 2017 strike against ISIS forces in Afghanistan. Several news organizations called it the largest conventional bomb ever used in combat, but the 22,000-pound Grand Slam earthquake bombs dropped during World War II may have been even heavier.

In 2007, Russia tested a thermobaric weapon nicknamed the “Father of All Bombs“; the weapon is claimed to be four times as powerful as the MOAB. (Read More)

One thing is for sure, anyone within a 10 mile radius of that blast most certainly felt it! Maybe even farther out even. That crap will wake you up in the morning!
