US-led coalition doubles number of advisers in Iraq to 450

A Baghdad-based U.S. military spokesman says the number of American advisers and allies that have gone into Mosul to help Iraqi forces in their fight against ISIS has doubled in the past couple of weeks.

(FOX)- U.S. Air Force Col. John Dorrian says there are now about 450 coalition advisers in Iraq.

The additional coalition troops in and around Mosul doubles the number of US forces that had been involved in the Mosul operation, said Dorrian.  US and allied forces remain behind the front lines in the Mosul fight, he added.

The additional forces were moved from other positions in Iraq in the past couple of weeks, Dorrian said.

The new US forces are a combination of special operations forces, engineers and intelligence personnel, Dorrian said.

ISIS cannot reinforce or resupply their positions in Mosul, Dorrian said.
