St. Louis police chief Sam Dotson out on Krewson’s first full day

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) –

Sam Dotson is retiring as St. Louis Police Chief, new Mayor Lyda Krewson announced on Monday.

Dotson, 47, is a 23-year veteran of the St. Louis Police Department, and began serving as chief in December 2012.

“The chief and I had a chance to talk about the future of the Department, and he made the decision to retire,” Krewson said. “I am grateful to Chief Dotson for his service and commitment to the people of the City of St. Louis.”

Krewson announced that Lt. Colonel and Assistant Police Chief Larry O’Toole will serve as interim police chief, and that a search will begin immediately to find a new Police Chief and Director of Public Safety.
