Fox 2 reports-

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A south St. Louis couple coming to the aid of a young woman are brutally beaten. Police say they have some strong leads in this case but no arrests yet.

It happened Sunday at around 6:00pm in the 3700 block of Virginia in the Gravois Park neighborhood of South St. Louis. A 34-year old woman who lives in that block. Her 37-year old boyfriend spotted a teenage girl from the neighborhood being harassed by a group of about fifteen men.

When the woman yelled at the men to leave the girl alone another woman appeared and hit the Good Samaritan in the head with a tree limb. Then the group attacked the couple, punching them and hitting them with other objects. The attackers fled before police arrived.

We didn’t find anyone in the neighborhood who knew the people involved. The idea of someone being attacked while trying to help a neighbor has residents bewildered.

“It’s hard to believe someone trying to assist somebody gets viciously attacked like that. That’s just not right,” said Robert Stout.

“That’s what keeps people from speaking out because of things like this happening. They don’t want it to happen to them so they don’t say anything and that is the shame,” said Monica Jackson.

The couple was still in the hospital, with the man in critical condition suffering from head injuries, his girlfriend is stable.

Police say the female suspect is African American with a dark complexion. She is believed to be in her 30’s about 5’6″ tall, 130lbs with a thin build and long, braided hair. She was wearing a coral colored blouse.
