Officials identify sailor fatally shot at naval air station

Navy officials in Virginia are identifying a sailor fatally shot by a Naval Air Station Oceana security officer.

(FOX)- News outlets report that the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Command said Sunday that Seaman Robert Wright, who’s from Colorado, crashed through a station gate Friday night and went to his squadron’s hangar, where he was shot.

A Navy biography says Wright, who enlisted in 2016, worked as an information systems technician for Strike Fighter Squadron 81.

The Navy says a petty officer on watch at the hanger called security to report someone “yelling and causing damage in squadron hallways.”

The Navy says Wright refused to show his hands and moved aggressively toward master at arms officials and one fired, striking him.

Wright was taken to a hospital, where he died.
