Police were in a standoff after a Sheriff’s Deputy was fatally shot during a traffic stop Thursday. Responding officers responded a disturbance in the area and found two bodies.
The gunman fled and was holding at least two hostages inside of a building in Yell county.
The slain officer was identified as Lieutenant Kevin Mainhart.
Negotiators with the Arkansas State Police were on scene. Residents were told to avoid the Dardanelle/Chickalah area.
