FIRST AID 101

So boys and girls, this is my area of extreme expertise. I have been involved in Emergency Medicine for 22+ years. I am going to give you guys some BASICS that can help you in EXTREME cases and even Simple Everyday scenarios. I will help DISPEL the MYTHS you have heard on some things and tell you which “Home Remedies” actually work.
I was a First Responder by the age of 13 with Search and Rescue, Became an EMT by 16 and then joined the Navy as a Combat Corpsman with the Marines. I am currently a Paramedic in Pennsylvania and I work in some of the worst ghettos outside of Pittsburgh. I have some expertise, please; take this seriously. What I will teach you can help you save lives. Maybe even your own.
I know that most people like the Blood and Guts and Gore of Trauma, but I am going to start a little more simple. Don’t stop reading, I will get to the “Good Stuff”. Be patient.
Let’s start really simple:
CPR ( Cardio- Pulmonary Resuscitation)- CPR guidelines change every few years on how they are performed. The principles are the same though.
-If you see a Teen or Adult collapse call 911! Patient not breathing and no pulse.
-Place your hands of the center of the chest and do compression’s. Push hard and fast. Use the beat of “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees. Yes, that’s correct. The beat of the song will allow you to deliver the 100 compression’s a minute that are required until the Paramedics arrive. (sidenote: you can also use the song”Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen; but that’s a little creepy. Funny, but creepy)
– Unless you know that the patient collapsed from choking, just keep doing compression’s. Don’t worry about rescue breaths. You can blow all the air you want into the persons mouth; if you don’t pump the heart to circulate, the rest of the body will die. Bystander CPR is HANDS ONLY now!
