Recently Tactical Shit had the privilege of interviewing Kevin Dixie of NOC Firearms. Kevin worked for the Department of Corrections for 9 years and has been teaching for 15. NOC standing for No Other Choice, is not your everyday firearms instruction. NOC Firearms offers training for your average everyday person, carpenters, plumbers, etc. NOC also offers a variety of outreach programs. The biggest being Aiming for the Truth! Which is an event that NOC Firearms puts on. Kevin makes some really great if not eye opening points and they really do challenge the average persons way of thinking.
“We are more than guns; we are a community”
Aiming for the Truth seeks to answer and addresses the root causes as to why are people and communities violent.
Aiming for the Truth tackles serious issues like mental health, rebuilding families and bringing them back together, Employment, managing your money, getting children get into better education systems for free, and firearm safety for both children and adults! If the parents come they give children gun safety training for free. Which in turn helps reduce accidents. At the event they feed the community for free and pay for round trip transportation. This is an All Pro – Dad program that helps fathers reconnect with their kids and families.
The goal is to improve the quality of life of those in the community and once those problems are addressed and that individual or group is in a good spot then the topic of the 2nd Amendment and protecting that quality of life is brought into the picture. This works because you basically said. I care about you. Lets invest in making your life better. Now lets talk about how you are going to defend that life that you have quality investment into. This seems to be the biggest thing the gun industry is missing. We’re saying, “since the anti gun people and anti freedom people have your minds we’re not going to invest anything into changing that.” The Anti gunners are in the communities everyday thats why out of the 13% of blacks they have 10% of them. They are in their ears everyday. This is why we’re losing. Because we refuse to talk to them. What if we could change the minds of that 10%?
Kevin presented us with a very good scenario what if you had a crystal ball, you could see into the future and you say that you were going to get robbed? Now what if this program got to that individual before they decided to rob you. That individual is now in a better position does not have to resort to violence to make ends meet or provide for their kids. Their quality of life has exponentially improved and they are a positive part of not only their community but the 2nd amendment community as well.
This is why I for one like this program it may not be a popular opinion but it is helping to change the image of the stereotypical gun guy. How many people do you know would have looked at the crystal ball scenario and said,”Well I could just use my ccw and shoot them!” This program helps deter that outcome and reverts the use of your ccw as No Other Choice. This program is more about the community and less about the guns.
This program helps the youth in the community now so later down the road they don’t squander Their 2nd Amendment rights. It dangles the carrot of future firearm ownership to them as well as provides them a positive moral compass as well as positive family and community standards.
